1. Learn what your vocal range is (soprano, alto, tenor or bass)
2. Confirm that you are able to sing a tune on pitch

INSTRUCTIONS

TIPS:
• We recommend you watch the video and practice at least once before you record yourself. It will help prepare you and warm up your voice.
• You will also need to have a pen and paper handy to write down your voice range during the audition. After you record yourself, follow the instructions at the bottom of this page to find out if you are a soprano, alto, tenor or bass.

When you are ready, follow these steps to record your audition.
1. Start recording (using your phone's audio or video recording app)
2. Play the appropriate Audition Video below (using a computer or tablet)
3. Sing along with the video (as instructed)
4. Stop recording (when the Audition Video is finished)

• Check that your voice and the audio from the Audition Video are both clearly heard
• Send your video or audio file to info@firechoir.com. If the file is too big to email, you can use www.wetransfer.com

The deadline for submitting your audition is 4 September. However (especially if you don’t know your vocal part), the sooner you send in the audition the better.

Find your voice range (soprano & alto)

At the beginning of your audition, you should have written down the name of the HIGHEST and LOWEST notes you could sing comfortably. Find the names of those notes on the chart below. That will tell you whether you sing soprano or alto.

When you submit your audition, we will review it and let you know what voice range/part we think suits your voice.

*Some altos are able to sing lower than the scale in this audition. If that is you, then you may prefer to sing Tenor.

 Choir auditions:

FireChoir is an open choir; we do not selectively pick only experienced people to join our choir. Our purpose is to give everyone who enjoys singing, and who can pass our simple audition, the opportunity to participate in a successful and vibrant professional choir. In our group audition everyone is asked to sing a familiar song in unison. While they are singing the director will pass by each person, listening to make sure each person can sing on pitch. No one is required to read music, we do not use written music. We use a different method.

Solo auditions:

FireChoir is open to people who are interested in singing solos. The audition process for solos is much more stringent and involves all areas of singing and stage presence. This includes rhythm, pitch, voice quality, tone, breath support, and facial and body expression to name a few of the things we evaluate. We also require soloists to be part of the choir and participate with the choir in all of the songs, learning our whole repertoire and being present for all concerts.
